Children’s Grand Park: The Botanical Garden Is Closed

Zoo entrance arch at Seoul Children’s Grand Park

Seoul Children’s Grand Park is still a free-entry park, but its botanical garden is closed for remodeling. For a 2026 family visit, do not build your rainy-day plan around that indoor stop.

Plan around the closure

  • The botanical garden is closed; the entire park is not.
  • Zoo hours end earlier than general park access.
  • Parking and stroller rental are separate from free admission.

The closure runs from May 27, 2026, until the second half of 2027, according to the operator’s notice. That reopening period is a target, not a confirmed opening date. This is the park in Gwangjin, served by Children’s Grand Park Station—not Seoul Grand Park in Gwacheon.

The newer closure notice changes the older English guide

The operator’s English overview still lists botanical-garden opening hours. Its Korean May 19 closure notice explicitly suspends operation for remodeling. Both were checked September 7, 2026. For this facility, use the dated closure notice rather than the standing hours on the general guide.

That discrepancy matters more than a small ticket saving. A family can arrive at the correct park, during its normal opening hours, and still find the one indoor attraction they planned to use unavailable. General park access and access to a particular building are separate questions.

What changes for a visit during the remodeling period
Plan What to check Practical consequence
A walk in the park Park opening hours and weather The botanical-garden notice does not close the entire park.
An animal-focused visit Zoo hours and day-specific notices Do not use the park’s late closing time as the zoo’s closing time.
An indoor break in the botanical garden Remodeling notice Remove this stop from the itinerary until reopening is confirmed.

Free entry does not make every version of the day free

The current operator’s hours and fees page lists free park admission, park access from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., and zoo viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., subject to conditions. It also lists stroller rental at ₩3,000 and passenger-car parking at ₩150 per five minutes. Checked September 7, 2026.

Here is a deliberately limited cost example: three hours of parking is 36 five-minute units, or ₩5,400 at that posted rate. Add one ₩3,000 stroller rental and the total is ₩8,400 before food or separately paid activities. This assumes the undiscounted posted parking rate; it is not an all-inclusive family budget.

For a family already carrying a stroller and arriving by public transit, those particular extras may be zero. The decision is not whether the park is “really free.” It is which parts of your own visit create a charge—and whether the visit still works without the closed building.

Build the outing around the zoo clock, not the park clock

If seeing animals is the main reason to go, arriving near 5 p.m. leaves very little flexibility under the posted zoo hours. A later park walk can be a different, perfectly reasonable plan, but it is not a substitute for the same animal visit.

The operator’s access guide places the main entrance at Line 7 Children’s Grand Park Station, Exit 1, and the rear entrance at Line 5 Achasan Station, Exit 4. Check your actual route before selecting an entrance; those exit references are not a verified step-free route.

Our view: keep this as a flexible outdoor outing during the remodeling period. We would not cross Seoul solely for an indoor botanical-garden visit, and we would not buy a replacement activity just to preserve an itinerary that no longer fits the weather.

For fall 2026 and early 2027, that judgment holds as long as the closure remains in effect. A confirmed early reopening would change it; the general English hours alone would not. Check the park’s current notices before departure.

For the wider family budget, use the Seoul subway child-fare rules and compare a three-day Climate Card with expected rides. On a different sightseeing day, palace-pass eligibility is another case where adults and children need separate calculations.

Checked September 7, 2026. Closure timing and fees come from Seoul Facilities Corporation. The parking example and itinerary judgment are K-Trend’s analysis; reopening timing remains provisional.
