For a Taylor Swift makeup red-lip direction in K-beauty, pick the finish before you pick the shade name. Choose Peripera Ink The Velvet at $8.29 if a soft-matte, blurred edge matters most; choose Ink Mood Glowy Tint at $8.99 if shine and a less rigid look matter more. Neither is a verified blue-red dupe of Pat McGrath’s current Taylor-Made kit, and neither is verified personal use by Taylor Swift. The right purchase depends on the compromise you are willing to see.
What the official Taylor-Made kit actually fixes
Pat McGrath Labs’ current Taylor-Made Lip Kit page removes three uncertainties at once. It names LiquiLUST Elson 4 as a vivid blue-red, pairs it with the blue-red Legendary Longwear Lip Liner in Elson, and prices the two-piece kit at $57. At the August 30 check, the page showed “Limited Quantities” and an active Add to bag button.
The brand claims the liner is waterproof, smudge-proof, and good for eight-hour wear, while the matte liquid lipstick is claimed to last up to 12 hours. Those manufacturer claims define the expensive route: not merely red color, but a crisp blue-red boundary plus a stated long-wear system.
A cheaper tint can be a useful visual translation without replacing all three functions. If you drop the liner, the edge becomes less engineered. If you switch to gloss, reflect becomes part of the look. If you choose a shade from a name alone, the undertone remains unresolved. The decision is clearer when those tradeoffs stay visible.
The first fork is finish—not the number on the tube
| Your priority | Route to inspect | What official copy supports | Unresolved before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue-red definition and stated wear system | Pat McGrath Taylor-Made Kit, $57 | Vivid blue-red matte lipstick plus blue-red liner; specific brand wear claims | How it wears on you; current stock; personal comfort |
| Soft-matte color with a lower sticker price | Peripera Ink The Velvet, $8.29 | Soft matte velvet finish; selectable #32 Fuchsia Red and #33 Pure Red | Neither shade is officially described as blue-red; no equivalent waterproof/12-hour claim |
| Gloss and a softer visual boundary | Peripera Ink Mood Glowy Tint, $8.99 | Watery, non-sticky, glossy format; selectable #5 Cherry So What | Different finish, likely touch-up expectations, and unverified undertone |
| No new purchase | Your current red plus your current liner | No new product claim needed | Whether the color reads blue, neutral, or orange in daylight |
The Peripera products above are K-Trend’s finish-based editorial routes. Club Clio’s official U.S. pages list the prices, finish descriptions, shade selectors, and Add to cart controls. Pat McGrath’s documented blue-red system remains the source brief; the Peripera comparison concerns format, finish, and purchase trade-offs.
Use a two-swatch check before trusting “Pure Red”
A shade label is a catalog name, not an undertone measurement. “Pure Red” may be the most promising neutral starting point; “Fuchsia Red” may carry the blue/pink energy you want. But those names alone cannot decide which one reads closer to a vivid blue-red on your lips.
- Bring a known reference. Use a red you already recognize as blue-leaning or neutral. The comparison matters more than an isolated swatch.
- Place candidates side by side. Compare equal, thin layers. A thick pool of tint can make saturation obscure undertone.
- Check neutral daylight. Warm bathroom bulbs and aggressively vivid phone screens can pull both reds orange or pink.
- Wait for the finish to settle. A wet tint and its later surface can reflect differently. This is especially important when comparing velvet and glowy formulas.
- Judge the whole brief. If the shade is right but the gloss is wrong, it is not the same look. If the finish is right but the shade turns orange, it is also not the same look.
This is a reader-side verification method, not a report of our own swatches. K-Trend did not buy, apply, wear, or transfer-test these tints. If you cannot swatch, use current first-party shade images as a starting point and choose a seller whose return policy you can accept before opening the product.

The $48 gap buys certainty, not just more product
Using the current official prices, the matte Peripera route is $48.71 below the $57 Pat McGrath kit, an 85.5% lower sticker price. The glowy Peripera route is $48.01 below, or 84.2% lower. Buying both Peripera finishes would cost $17.28, which is $39.72 below the kit, or 69.7% lower.
Those figures exclude tax and shipping. More importantly, they are not value-for-performance scores. The $57 route includes a liner, an officially defined blue-red pairing, and specific brand wear claims. The $8–$9 routes leave undertone, edge control, and individual wear to be verified. Paying less is rational if you prefer that formula category and accept the open questions. Buying both “just in case” is not automatically economical if one finish will sit unused.
Edge and transfer are separate decisions
Pat McGrath’s kit builds precision into the bundle with a matching liner. Neither Peripera page offers that same paired blue-red system. If you already own a compatible red liner, use it lightly around the highest-risk edges—the cupid’s bow and corners—rather than filling the entire lip by default. If you do not own one, a softly blurred velvet edge is more coherent than purchasing a beige, mauve, or pink pencil simply because it is available.
Finish also changes transfer expectations. Club Clio calls Ink The Velvet long-lasting, but the page does not make the same waterproof, smudge-proof, or hour-specific claims as Pat McGrath. Ink Mood Glowy Tint is marketed around gloss and moisture, not transfer resistance. Treat a personal pre-event wear check as necessary. Do not infer “concert-proof,” “meal-proof,” or “kiss-proof” from the word tint.
If dryness is the real problem, separate pigment from treatment before buying another color.
If your goal is a blurred K-beauty lip rather than a crisp signature red, place color at the center and soften the perimeter. If your goal is the precise graphic edge, keep the boundary intact and select a matching liner based on an actual swatch. Those are two legitimate looks, but they should not be collapsed into one claim.
Pick your branch
| If this is true… | Choose… | Because… |
|---|---|---|
| You want the documented blue-red pair and defined liner | Pat McGrath kit, subject to current stock | It resolves shade family and edge in one official system |
| You want the lower-cost matte direction | Audition Peripera #33 and #32 | The formula category fits, but the undertone still needs proof |
| You want shine more than signature-matte accuracy | Inspect Peripera #5 | It makes the finish change explicit instead of hiding it |
| You cannot compare undertones before a major event | Wait or use your known red | A celebrity keyword is not a reason to gamble on color |
| You already own a blue-leaning red that works | Change edge/finish; buy nothing | Technique can supply the visual direction without duplicate inventory |
A brand page can document its own formula and claims, but it cannot stand in for an independent result. Here, celebrity inspiration can define a color target; it cannot verify personal use or turn a shade name into a dupe.
For retailer-channel context, our OLIVE YOUNG/Sephora U.S. guide tracks a different assortment; it does not establish Peripera stock.
The durable Taylor Swift makeup answer is simple. If you need exact documented color structure and stated wear claims, the official kit is the honest route. If you want a K-beauty interpretation under $9, choose matte or gloss first, audition the red family second, and keep your compromise visible.
